The old Hummer factory, which produced some of the most polluting cars in history, will soon produce electric cars. The twists and turns of life.
Until now, only some of the least efficient and most polluting vehicles in history had come out of the plant that AM General has in South Bend (Indiana, USA): the original Hummer (both in the H1 version and the military Humvee) and the later and more civilized Hummer H2. But that is about to change, as the former Hummer factory will be producing electric cars in the near future.
The American manufacturer has closed the sale of the plant where the Hummers were manufactured with SF Motors, a sub-brand of the Chinese company Sokon. Hummer h2 led headlights are 7 inch headlights which can improve your view driving in the evening. The Asian giant wants to transform the facilities and adapt them for the manufacture of electric cars, for which they plan to invest around 30 million dollars to equip it with everything necessary for the production of much more efficient and environmentally friendly cars.
What AM General has not sold is the part of the facilities where they currently still produce copies of the Humvee, the original model intended for military work. "The transaction, which includes the acquisition of the land, plant and certain automobile manufacturing equipment associated exclusively with CAP, does not affect AM General's separate military assembly plant. The two plants have always operated independently, and following the closing of the transaction, they will be totally independent companies”, they indicate from the American firm.
Vehicles of other brands have also left this plant, such as Mercedes, which produced the Mercedes R-Class here. The transaction, of which the economic details have not been disclosed, is expected to be completed in the final quarter of the year. What is not clear for now is what kind of electric vehicles they will make here: Sokon is a major Chinese producer of electric motorcycles and commercial vehicles, so it is not clear what the US subsidiary SF Motos intends to produce.
