A correctly aligned headlight is essential for safe night riding and visibility on your Royal Enfield. Whether you ride a Classic 350, Meteor 650, Himalayan, or Interceptor, proper headlight adjustment ensures you can see the road ahead clearly without blinding oncoming traffic. In this guide, we’ll explain how to aim and align your headlight step by step.

Why Headlight Alignment Matters

Misaligned headlights can either point too high—dazzling other drivers—or too low, limiting your visibility. Proper alignment:

  • Enhances visibility and road safety

  • Reduces glare for other road users

  • Improves the appearance and balance of your bike’s lighting

If you’ve recently replaced your headlight, upgraded to Royal Enfiled LED headlight, or experienced vibration from rough roads, it’s a good time to check alignment.

Tools You’ll Need

  • A Phillips or flathead screwdriver (depending on your headlight model)

  • A measuring tape

  • Masking tape

  • A wall or garage door

  • A level surface about 3–5 meters (10–15 feet) long

Step 1: Prepare Your Bike and Surface

  1. Park your Royal Enfield on a level surface, facing a flat wall.

  2. Keep the motorcycle upright (use the center stand if available).

  3. Check that your tires are properly inflated and your suspension is set to your usual riding condition (preferably with a rider seated).

Step 2: Measure and Mark the Headlight Height

  1. Measure the distance from the ground to the center of your headlight bulb.

  2. Transfer this measurement to the wall directly in front of your bike using masking tape to make a horizontal line.

  3. Move the bike back about 3–5 meters (10–15 feet) from the wall and ensure it’s centered.

Step 3: Turn On the Headlight

Switch on your low beam. You’ll see a bright, concentrated light pattern on the wall. This pattern should appear slightly below the headlight centerline (the line you taped earlier) — usually about 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) lower.

If your beam is above or below that mark, it needs adjustment.

Step 4: Adjust the Vertical Aim

Locate the headlight adjustment screw — typically found:

  • Below or beside the headlight housing on Royal Enfield models like the Classic and Meteor.

  • On dual-sport models like the Himalayan, it’s often behind the headlight bracket.

Use the screwdriver to turn the screw:

  • Clockwise to lower the beam.

  • Counterclockwise to raise the beam.

Adjust gradually and check the beam position after each small turn until it aligns just below the taped line.

Step 5: Adjust the Horizontal Aim (if needed)

If your beam is tilted to the left or right:

  • Use the side adjustment screw to center the beam directly ahead.

  • The brightest point of the beam should be slightly to the right of center (for right-hand traffic countries) to avoid blinding oncoming vehicles.

Step 6: Test on the Road

After adjustment:

  • Take a short ride at night.

  • Observe how far you can see ahead and whether the beam evenly illuminates the road.

  • Make fine adjustments if needed for optimal clarity and safety.

Additional Tips

  • Always adjust headlights with the rider on the bike if possible.

  • Use Industry Mag DOT- or ECE-approved LED bulbs for better brightness and correct beam focus.

  • Avoid using high beams in traffic or urban areas.

  • Recheck your alignment every few months or after long rides on rough terrain.
